Saudi Arabia’s response to Houthi airport attacks: Deterrence, defense and regional security

সূত্র: Blitz / বাংলাদেশ

From the report

Saudi Arabia faces a serious security challenge following the reported Houthi attack on a passenger terminal at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, an incident that underscores the growing threat posed by missile and drone warfare to civilian infrastructure across the Middle East. With casualties reported among Saudi nationals and foreign citizens, the attack has intensified concerns about the protection of civilian aviation, regional stability and the future of efforts to contain the conflict in Yemen.

The reported attack, which left 12 people dead and 309 injured, including several critically, triggered widespread condemnation. Four of those killed were reportedly Saudi citizens, while the others included nationals of several countries, among them a US citizen. The targeting of a civilian airport, a facility essential to international travel and economic activity, has raised serious questions about the Houthis’ military strategy and the potential consequences of their expanding campaign.

Saudi Arabia now faces the challenge of responding decisively without allowing the confrontation to develop into a broader regional war. Riyadh’s approach is likely to combine military deterrence, enhanced air defense, intelligence cooperation, support for Yemen’s internationally recognized government and efforts to mobilize international opposition to attacks against civilian infrastructure.
