The Houthis must be at the center of America’s Iran strategy
From the report
The growing threat posed by Yemen’s Houthi movement underscores a critical challenge for US foreign policy: Washington cannot develop an effective strategy toward Iran while treating Tehran’s regional network of armed allies as a secondary concern. Any serious effort to deter Iranian aggression, protect regional stability and secure vital maritime routes must address the Houthis as an integral part of Iran’s regional power projection.
The Houthis’ expanding military capabilities have transformed them from a local armed movement into a significant regional security threat. Their missile and drone operations, cross-border attacks and targeting of critical infrastructure demonstrate their ability to destabilize neighboring countries, threaten civilian populations and disrupt international commerce. These developments have intensified Yemen’s conflict, deepened its humanitarian crisis and increased uncertainty across global energy markets and shipping routes.
For the United States, the implications are clear: the Houthi threat must become a central consideration in its broader approach to Iran.
