Democrats’ anti-Trump strategy exposes a deeper crisis of American identity

From the report
Opposing Donald Trump may offer Democrats a short-term electoral advantage, but without a compelling national vision, the party risks winning votes without answering what America should become.
As the November midterm elections approach, Democrats are increasingly centering their campaigns on two issues: the rising cost of living and President Donald Trump’s war with Iran. Both deserve serious political scrutiny. Higher energy prices put additional pressure on American households, while another military confrontation in the Middle East raises important questions about national priorities, strategic objectives, and the cost of foreign intervention. Yet focusing almost exclusively on Trump’s decisions allows Democrats to avoid a more fundamental challenge: presenting a coherent vision of what America stands for and what kind of country they want to build.
Political opposition can be an effective electoral strategy, but it is not a substitute for leadership. Democrats may benefit from public dissatisfaction with the administration, but defeating Republicans will not automatically resolve the growing divisions over national identity, economic security, and social cohesion.
