Plug-and-play silicone softener provides effortless textile finishing

From the report
The emergence of linear block silicone copolymers marked a major paradigm shift in textile finishing, overcoming the performance trade-offs inherent in conventional amino and amido-silicone softeners. By integrating alternating segments of flexible polydimethylsiloxane and amino blocks into a single backbone, this unique architecture maximizes luxurious hand-feel while radically enhancing yellowing resistance and application stability. Unlike traditional silicones that frequently fail under harsh processing conditions, the securely configured functional groups in block silicones withstand high shear, extreme pH, and elevated temperatures.
While most standard block copolymers effectively use high-shear homogenization or microemulsification to form oil-in-water emulsions stabilized by suitable surfactants, this approach carries some inherent practical and technical limitations.
Process dependency: Achieving and maintaining a fine, stable emulsion particle size depends on emulsification equipment, surfactant selection, and careful process control, both at the manufacturer and, for in-house emulsified products, at the mill.
