Poland’s domestic constitutional crisis has erupted into open confrontation just as the country deepens its role as NATO’s eastern bulwark. Last week, senior judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska suspended Constitutional Tribunal president Bogdan Święczkowski.

Nawrocki returned to Warsaw, accusing the government of seizing the court, while Tusk insists his coalition is restoring legality after PiS judicial changes. Riot police guarded the court amid protests, with electoral stakes ahead of 2027.

The dispute also arguably reflects geopolitical differences: Tusk favors closer EU integration and ties with Berlin – while Nawrocki and PiS emphasize sovereignty and alignment with Washington.
