Trump’s greatest deal may be waiting in Tehran

From the report
US President Donald Trump has built much of his political identity around the art of dealmaking. He frequently boasts of achieving what others could not, presenting himself as a leader capable of breaking diplomatic deadlocks and securing extraordinary agreements. Yet an unexpected reversal in his political fortunes may have created an opportunity to pursue the most consequential deal of his presidency: a historic reconciliation with Iran.
The Democrats’ stunning performance in the US midterm elections, securing control of both chambers of Congress and several key governorships, has changed Washington’s political landscape. The results have also raised questions about the future of Trump’s political influence, including the ambitions of some of his closest allies. Vice President JD Vance, whose political calculations may increasingly extend toward 2028, has begun questioning the administration’s handling of the war with Iran.
Meanwhile, some of those Trump previously sought to undermine are enjoying their moment. Michigan Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed, whose name the president repeatedly mocked, has suggested that Trump can now simply address him as “Senator.” Such exchanges illustrate how quickly political fortunes can change.
