From the report

Artificial intelligence could make Bangladesh’s economy US$8.2 billion larger after ten years, according to major new research which identifies the country as having the greatest potential AI-related economic opportunity among 41 Commonwealth nations falling below a new readiness benchmark.

The Ayre Index, launched at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda, places Bangladesh three places ahead of Pakistan at 21st for the conditions that help young people benefit from artificial intelligence. It scores 48.7 out of 100, below the study’s readiness benchmark of 53. Only 15 of the 56 Commonwealth countries reach that level.

Bangladesh has approximately 48.3 million young people aged 15 to 29, giving it considerable potential to benefit from AI. Using scenarios developed by the International Monetary Fund, researchers calculate that AI could make the country’s economy US$8.2 billion larger after ten years. The figure ranges from US$4.1 billion under the most conservative scenario to US$12.3 billion under the most optimistic.
