World Bank Forecasts Slowdown in Bangladesh’s Economic Growth

The World Bank has forecast that the slowdown in Bangladesh’s economic growth may continue for some time. According to the organization, the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth could stand at 3.4 percent in the fiscal years 2026 and 2027. However, growth might slightly increase to 3.9 percent in fiscal year 2028.

This economic outlook for Bangladesh was highlighted in the World Bank’s October 2026 Bangladesh Development Update, published on Tuesday (October 6). The report was released under the title ‘Make Subsidies and Social Protection Work Better for the Poor’.

The report states that the World Bank has reduced its growth forecast for fiscal year 2027 by 1.2 percentage points compared to its previous estimate. Similarly, the forecast for fiscal year 2026 has also been lowered by 0.5 percentage points.
